ABOUT COMMONWEALTH PUBLIC AFFAIRS
When it comes to communications we value the big picture - and we see the forest through the trees - but we understand how important the details are and making sure plans are executed upon, providing deliverables that exceed expectations.
Commonwealth Public Affairs is a full-service strategic communications firm providing clients with top-notch expertise to meet organization and business objectives.
Commonwealth believes that a good story can fuel great strategies and tactics that turn into desired results.
Led by Dan Drummond - a veteran of journalism, Capitol Hill, agencies, associations and a recovering politician himself - Commonwealth is connected with other firms, designers and consultants to ensure clients get the results they deserve.
ABOUT DAN DRUMMOND
Dan got his start in PR like most people in the field do - by working at his high school newspaper. His love for writing, reporting, and the news led him to Washington, D.C. where he was a reporter for several years before going into communications.
Initially, Dan cut his teeth on politics and communications working as Rep. Jim Moran's press secretary. He then went onto a successful career at Powell Tate|Weber Shandwick and Burson Marsteller. While at those agencies, Dan developed a reputation as a strategic thinker who could run complex communications campaigns - never afraid to roll up his sleeves and pitch a reporter.
After several years of agency life, Dan went to work as the Director of Public Relations (now Director of Communications) for the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, a non-profit professional certifying body based in Washington, D.C. During his nearly ten years at CFP Board, Dan rebooted the public relations function, overseeing successful communications campaigns, handling all media relations while leading corporate, consumer and public policy communications activities.
In addition to his work in journalism and PR, Dan also served three terms on the Fairfax City Council. He has also taught at Howard University and presented at conferences on the value of integrated communications, most recently at the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) and the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA).
Dan has a Bachelor's degree in political science from Old Dominion University and a Master's degree in government from Johns Hopkins University.
Slapshot. Screech. G-Wiz. Talon. They are all on a first-name basis with Dan since you will often find him at a Capitals, Nats, Wizards or D.C. United game in the near future. Not so much for the local football team.
